The sushi/sashimi and rolls are really good - high quality, fresh - the tuna was so good. The place itself is very spare. It feels like a college dining room and there are a lot of Stanford students dining there, but that kind of ads too the ambience. I have gotten takeout from there too, and it is always excellent. I’ve catered a party with them also and everything was perfect. I highly recommend the place.

Favorite place ever, sushi is incredible and I love their miso soup, everything is incredibly reasonably priced and they even have free soft serve!! Like this place should have a full five stars on everything. Literally perfect.

Update: Sadly they changed the cut of the tuna in the chirashi bowl - no longer the fatty cut, and start charging $5 additionally if we were to do all tuna or 50/50 tuna + salmon. All good things must come to an end I suppose. My overall rating would be 3/5 now but leaving the original rating as they had been good for a while and we went almost every week. Off to the hunt our next haunt. -------------------------- It's mid grade quality sushi (nothing wrong; there's a market for it). For the price and portion, I really enjoy it. I always get the chirashi bowl. I sometimes ask for only salmon or half salmon and tuna, and they don't charge extra. The chicken karage is pretty good too. First beer or soda or ramune (Japanese flavored soft drink) is free which is awesome.

It was very interesting how they served us water in water bottles, perhaps there's a plumbing issue? Also, out of all the dishes we had, the salad was the only one in a plastic container, which is utterly confusing. Besides that, MJ Sushi is pretty decent as a go-to sushi spot for the neighborhood. It's great quality and is well priced for the area. The sushi rolls were good but not the best that I have had. Their quality of fish is not as high as other places I have been, but it was still very good. I think there is too much competition in the area for me to choose this restaurant consistently if I didn't live here. Their salmon teriyaki, though, was the best dish out of all the ones I ordered. The fish was still soft and smooth. At the end of your meal, you get to have self-served soft serve icecream. They ran out of vanilla at the end of the night but I had the last bit. It was pretty decent run of the mill buffet style soft serve. Not complaining because it was free.

This place has a perfect five star rating with 50ish reviews so I was a bit skeptical but excited to try. It definitely met my high expectations. They have a good-sized selection of rolls, everything was fresh and tasty and beautifully presented, and it was reasonably priced for sushi. They're also open late which is so so rare in bay area. The inside is nice and spacious, generally nice vibes. I'll definitely be back!
